Pixel Art Tutorial Series is currently the most popular thing on my page. The idea behind this is to take suggestions from the community and try to make a tutorial out of these things, helping out fellow deviants along the way. You can also find my pixel art tutorials in groups like #TutorialsForYou, #TutorialsClub and #PixelCommunity.
Here is a list of tutorials in my Pixel Art Tutorial Series, tutorials which are underlined and bold are already ready tutorials that you can read, other tutorials without the underline are tutorials that will be posted in deviantART in near future.
You can also suggest new pixel art tutorial series by commenting on my profile page, on these tutorials or by sending me a note.
Enjoy!

Premium Content

Over the years I have made a lot of free tutorials as a normal deviation or journal article for deviantART users to use and learn. While I love doing it, it also takes a lot of time from me.
Here are some of the resources that I offer as premium content in deviantART. These resources are made premium by me because it took a lot of time to make them and users buying them helps me to pay for premium groups and motivates me to make more free and premium content.
If you feel like you could use some of these resources, then be sure to buy them. I'm thankful for every purchase.

Free to use Icons

So I've decided to start a donation pool to collect some points so that maybe some day we could make #TutorialsClub and #TutorialsForYou a super group. i have already so many cool things planned out for it but unfortunately I don't have enough money to pay for it alone. All donations are welcome. :aww:

Away

Thu May 23, 2013, 10:41 AM
I haven't been that active with updating my journal with new stuff and articles recently but I can blame a good weather for it. That being said I will most probably be away for few weeks to help my grandparents. But I have some cool ideas for my groups and for my gallery when I come back.

Until then I created a new journal skin for myself and for you as well if you want to use it. Just click the thumbnail and install this skin from there. For heading type your heading title between < h2 > < /h2 > tags and for quote type your quote between < blockquote > < /blockquote > tags. You can also use stash writer quote button if it seems easier for you.

I don't know how well it works but there's only one way to find out, right? I still don't know all the tricks for dA css, but most of it is quite logical. I have tested this skin with chrome, firefox, opera and IE. It seems to work fine with all of them.

Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good. His life has much difficulty... Were it otherwise he would never have been able to find those words. - Rainer Maria Rilke

I guess I will see you soon!

Photographed Journey #1

Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey. - Pat Conroy

Kaisma Lake by `vanmall
Kaisma Lake

For this spring and summer I gave myself two promises and so far I have kept them quite well. First promise was to get back on to my mountain bike and ride with it as much as possible and my second promise was to take my camera with me as much as possible and take pictures of things that might not seem as important. I hope that combining these two will at the end give a wonderful result, as well as keep me healthy and improve my skills. Since I am determined to use only manual settings on my camera then these pictures might not look the best but I'll hope you enjoy this article.
But since I do like to tell stories anyway then I have decided to share my journey with you. Every once in a while I will post some stories of it over here, as well as my photography group #TheFocusZero.

Lake2 by `vanmall
Path around the lake with bog surrounding it

This time I had an opportunity to take my mom and my grandma to a little trip around one of the lakes we have about 80 kilometers away from my home town, called Kaisma lake. Since the lake isn't that big (140,4 hectares or 356 acres) then we decided to hike around the lake with a distance around 6 kilometers or a bit more. Although my grandma is almost 80 years old, she was still happy and excited to take this trip with us plus the weather was quite nice as well, giving a little extra bonus to our trip.
We knew that there should be a path around the lake but we didn't know how good it would be, so we geared up for the worse and began our journey. It later turned out that this path wasn't that bad at all, but since most of the lake is surrounded by bog, then it was naturally a little wet.

On our way around the lake we found that nature can sometimes be so different in a small area. First part went trough a big pine forest giving us a beautiful and majestic view with blooming bushes and too many anthills to count. These trees protected us from the sun and it was nice and cool to walk around.
Second part of the path went trough a bog. If you have seen bog before then you know how it is. Many small trees about your height, usually pines that never grow bigger and water or wet moss all around you. Since there weren't any real paths either then we were glad that our footwear was wisely selected. Around autumn you can find many great berries from there, if you know what to look for.
And the third and final part of the path went trough a birch forest where we found many blooming flowers.

Sometimes it is good to go outside and to just walk around and this was definitely one of these occasions. Although this lake is quite popular because of the fish you can get from here, it is still mostly untouched. But locals around the lake seem to love this place and with their own time and resources they have build many benches and walkways around the lake for easier access, so that all could enjoy it.

Flowers Around Lake by `vanmall

Around this time of the year you can also find many beautiful flowers and plants around the lake. Many of them only grow in wet places like this and bloom only for a short time.
At the end of this journey all three of us were a bit exhausted but happy that we decided to take this trip. It wasn't a long path to take but if you have to walk in a water most of the time then it can still exhaust you. I was definitely happy that I had taken my mountain bike a bit more seriously this year because my legs didn't even feel a thing. And if we all could take this trip then you can definitely go out as well and do something similar. Don't stay home, go out and explore!

Have fun and enjoy!

My Second DD

Tue May 7, 2013, 6:59 AM
Today I got my second Daily Deviation and it feels great. It seems that you get them when you don't expect them.

First DD that I got was about 4 years ago when I wrote my first pixel art tutorial on how to make a victorian house.

But I thought that it would be a one time thing, I never expected to get a second daily deviation. It was even a bigger surprise since I have been sick for the last few days and therefor I haven't spent much time here. So today when visiting I noticed that I have gained like 200-300 new messages on my message center since yesterday but I didn't think about it much since it isn't too much above average and realized that I got the daily deviation when I was congratulating people who got a DD today. While doing it I suddenly noticed that one of the DD's was from my gallery and that's when I realized that I actually got my 2nd DD.

It was suggested by `mintyy and featured by ^ValaSedai, both great artists.

And the featured deviation was one of my icons that I made for fun a month ago.

It definitely makes me want to make more pixel icons now since it shows that people actually like them.

Thank you all! :happybounce:

Hi, my name is Mikk Sammal or as most of you know me - vanmall. I'm 23 years old and live in Estonia, a small country next to Finland, Russia, Latvia and Sweden. During these 23 years I have found myself many hobbies I really enjoy. If you have been watching me then you most probably already know what I like and what I don't like. Due to my hobbies I really like summer as then I have more free time to enjoy my life. I like to ride with bike a lot and also take pictures. When theres nothing else to do then I use my computer to create some art, mostly pixel art or web design. I'm really proud of my pixel art achievements, I have tried out most of the things you can do with pixel art and during that time I also tried to teach others.
DeviantArt has always played an important part in my life as when I first started with my art then this was the place where I got my inspiration and feedback.
