Yesterday I noticed that deviantART has a contests called "8-bit challenge". It was awesome to see that deviantART has actually decided to do a contest about pixel art, you don't imagine how long I have waited to see this. Not because I would want to take part in it but because I often feel that we should have more stuff about pixel art.
Now, as I have played around with pixels before, then I would like to think that I have some followers who watch me because of my pixel art. I also do believe that some of you might take part in this challenge. So, I decided to write a little journal to reminds you some of the things that might give you an advantage over other contestants. Actually, most of it is written down by contest holders but I know that people sometimes forget to read before they act. And as I like to read, then, you know, I might be useful.
So, here are some of the tips and rules about this contest that you might not have noticed:1. You can desing only up to two areas. For example hood and front. Otherwise you will be disqualified.2. Don't use more than seven colors. For example, if you want to add deviantART logo then logo alone takes at least 2-4 colors already. Think about what you want to do before you do it.3. No line should be thinner than 2pt and no space should be thinner than 2pt.Otherwise it won't look as good later on. It might look good now but if they actually do want to print it later on then you will have a problem. I believe that judges will notice it.4. Fan art and pictures/logos/etc by someone else aren't allowed. We all remember some awesome figures from 8-bit era but unfortunately you can't use it and then claim it to be yours. That's just how copyright laws work.
If you would actually want to take part of this insanity then here is the link:
