DeviantART is a great place to find not only art but also some awesome tutorials. It doesn't matter if you are interested in photo manipulation or writing, usually there is a tutorial for that. But at the same time there are so many great tutorials outside of deviantART and most deviantART users might never find them unless someone shows these tutorials to them. So I'm happy to introduce you a new journal series called "Tutorial Showcase" which features some awesome tutorials outside of deviantART. System is pretty simple. Every showcase journal showcases five tutorials from a specific category and this category changes with every new journal. There's no special placement, all of them are equal. So here we go!

I'm still here!!

Heya!

It seems that I haven't written a journal for over a year now and there's a reason for it.

Over the past year I have been quite busy and even tho I love this website and community, I haven't had time to do anything at all. My main reason at first was that I got a new job and that's why I had to be away a lot. But after that a lot has changed and I got busier and busier. Even now I'm almost ready to move to another city, so I still have a lot to do.

That's why, today, I decided to close or leave most of my groups. I don't want to have groups that I don't have time to run, I hope you understand. But I took the time to read most of the messages you all left me. Thank you for your nice words. :)

I will still keep my tutorial groups and I do want to do something awesome with these some time soon. I also updated our pixel town project and I will update it even more in a near future. So this will still be active.

I hope you are all doing great! I would love to hear from all of you!

As soon as I have some free time, I will make some more pixel art tutorials/pixel art/update pixel art town/write some articles to tutorial groups. :aww:

Pixel Art Town

For those of you who are interested in my Pixel Art Town Project, then this journal is for you. Below I will give you a little update on what is going on and what will be the future of this project.

Today I spent about 3 hours on updating this project so that it could grow bigger in the future. Even with only 64 spots it was a nightmare to update every time someone got done with his/her part, mainly because of the amount of layers this project requires and moving these layers. So that's what I wanted to fix today.

Basically before all participants had 2 layers in my .psd file + all the files needed for the base of the project (roads, etc). Since with today's update (traffic lights, lamps, etc) I had to add around 400-500 new layers, then something had to be done beforehand. So all participants now have their own folders and a color of the folder (green/red), depending if they are done with their part or not. Also all traffic lights and lamps are separated into different folders for different locations.

All of this and more allows me to expand the project in the future, because by the looks of it, a lot of people are still interested in joining.

Main thing that I would want to point out with this journal is that this update won't affect your part of the project. Traffic lights and lamps can all be separately moved, if they should block your part of the project. I already removed or moved some of them where they didn't fit, so don't worry about it.

If you have a spot in this project and it isn't done then please let me know how far you are with it, because there are a lot of people waiting for the spot and in April this project will be 1 year old. 90% of the people who haven't finished their part are the ones who joined right at the very beginning. I have talked with most of you but I have to start removing people soon.

Some updates

I felt that I haven't done a normal update of the things that are going on for a while so here it is.

Groups

First of all, last year my deviantART new year resolution was to work more with my tutorial groups and I feel that I somewhat succeeded in this. I started some new articles series and today looking back to Tutorial Showcase series that I started last year, I feel that it has been quite successful since first 16 articles gained over 86.000 views, with most popular having over 17.000 views and some of these articles got to be on main page footer. Having way more views than most of my articles tells me that I'm doing something right. So I would like to continue with this.
That and my pixel art tutorials also inspired me to do something else and I have been working on it for the last 3 months, however it is not ready yet.

Pixel Art

Second part of the last year was also good for me because I was chosen to be a pixel art CV again and I feel that it is going way better this time than few years ago. I had the opportunity to host my own contest and I feel like I have made more effort to connect with the community as well.
I'm also still running Pixel Art Town Project and again to my surprise it has gone way better than I hoped for. All the spots are reserved and every time someone drops out it takes only a few hours to fill them back up. By now almost 50% of the city is completed.

Sick

I was sick at the end of the last year, so I had to be away from deviantART for around 2 weeks. So if you didn't see pixel art DD's are any other activity from my part then I am sorry, I was sick.
