Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Well, this is strange. Today I posted a visual suggestion about the possibility to change your deviantART username after every six months and half a day later deviantART announced that you can now change your username after every six months.

Anyway, if you are interested in changing your username then you can now do it. Just go to your settings and you should find the right place from there. However as said before, you can only do it twice a year and you have to be a premium member for that.

Yeah, I wanted to post this suggestion long ago but decided to submit right before you launched it. It now seems like I knew something and tried to promote it before it was launched.

And yeah, I got the six months part. I also mentioned that your old username should be shown somewhere and it got added as well. I only missed the price part by saying that it should be 1,000 points, premium membership is a bit cheaper. But this was only because it would have been a good business trick for deviantART because you can't buy 1,000 points. Users should have spend their money 2 times to get their 1,000.

Ah, yes. We're not that cruel.

We hope that charging the price of a Premium Membership is worth it for the deviant as well, so they get to change their name and enjoy all the other benefits of a PM.
